Important file(s) ?

posted May 10, 2011 11:32:52 by Arun
Hi,

Usually when we create any new weblogic domain, certain things will be generated automatically, so in that below with one example -
//domains/<domain-name>/security
--> DefaultAuthenticatorInit.ldift
--> DefaultRoleMapperInit.ldift
--> SerializedSystemIni.dat
--> XACMLRoleMapperInit.ldift

So, first how to view these files – I tried opening them with notepad, ms-word and wordpad but that doesn’t work for me, it shows some unknown code format, we can’t read!

Then what are these files? Purpose?

Do we use them anywhere? If not currently, do we need to have them for future for any recover purpose? Like this any??

And any other files that we need to keep in touch/mind which states “HIGH’ importance in weblogic?
I know something that need to be aware & know most important one “config.xml” file, so do we have like any others??

Thanks

The files you mentioned basically contain the security related data such as user, group, roles, authorization information.
These are very important files and its good to have a backup, esp of SerializedSystemIni.dat which basically holds the hash to decrypt passwords.
You can also keep a backup of the config folder.

Thank You.

Understood like all .ldift file(s) constitute the Embedded ldap contents & .dat file(s) used for encryption in WebLogic.
